Airport or Manhattan?

Airports have the most cars and the longest opening hours. Manhattan locations avoid airport fees and let you skip city driving at the start of your trip, but they have fewer cars and can sell out on summer weekends.

Fees to watch

  • Toll programs: a daily fee is often added on top of the tolls themselves.
  • Young driver fee: most companies charge extra under 25.
  • Insurance: check what your credit card or own policy already covers before buying the counter add-ons.
  • One-way rentals: dropping off in another city can add a large fee.
  • Fuel: return the car full unless you prepaid fuel.

What kind of car?

A compact car is easiest to park in the city. For the Catskills in winter, or with a family and luggage, a small SUV is more comfortable.
